February 26, 2025 – Microsoft has made a major move in the AI space by offering free, unlimited access to OpenAI’s powerful o1 model through its Copilot “Think Deeper” feature. This comes as OpenAI continues to charge $200 per month for unlimited access to o1 under its ChatGPT Pro plan, while ChatGPT Plus users ($20/month) only get limited access.
Copilot “Think Deeper” Unlocks Advanced AI for Free
Microsoft’s AI chief Mustafa Suleyman announced that Copilot users across all platforms can now access the o1 model for free. The “Think Deeper” feature enhances Copilot by generating more thorough, research-based responses rather than quick, surface-level answers.
Users can enable “Think Deeper” via the Copilot app on Windows or copilot.microsoft.com by signing in with a Microsoft account. Initially, Microsoft had placed some limitations on access, but as of February 25, 2025, those restrictions have been removed, allowing free and unlimited use.
Additionally, Copilot’s Voice feature is also now available without any usage limits, further expanding the tool’s capabilities.
What Can “Think Deeper” Do?
Unlike a search engine, Think Deeper focuses on in-depth analysis and problem-solving rather than providing the latest news. Its capabilities include:
- Research-based insights on complex topics like climate science, historical events, and economics
- Coding support, including generating and explaining C# applications
- Logical reasoning and problem-solving, making it ideal for software engineering and data analysis
What’s Next for AI-Powered Copilot?
While Microsoft has not indicated plans to charge for “Think Deeper,” OpenAI has already announced its next-generation o3 model, featuring an advanced “private chain of thought” for more sophisticated problem-solving. However, o3 is unlikely to be free, meaning Microsoft’s move to integrate o1 at no cost could give it a competitive edge.
With AI development moving at lightning speed, Microsoft’s strategy to offer premium AI features for free could reshape the market, positioning Copilot as a serious alternative to paid ChatGPT Pro subscriptions.
